What To Expect At Your First Chiropractic Visit

You will meet the doctor after filling out some brief paperwork describing you, your health history and your health goals. The chiropractic examination follows. The exam includes physical, orthopedic and chiropractic tests to help us locate areas of your spine that could be the cause of your problem. Our examinations are comprehensive, thorough and will put you at ease. It is important to make a proper diagnosis before treating a patient.

We will show you what we found and the conclusions we've reached. If we find that you would benefit from consulting a different practitioner, we will make the proper referral. Otherwise, we will recommend a treatment plan specific to your condition.

With a plan in place to fulfill your health goals, future visits will take just minutes. The purpose of these subsequent visits will be to locate and reduce your vertebral subluxations and monitor the healing process.

How Does Chiropractic Work?

The nervous system controls and coordinates all of the functions of your body. Your body sends information over the nerves to your brain. Your brain interprets the information and sends messages back through the nerves to the body. When these messages are disrupted, the body can become weak, lose optimal function, and become vulnerable to disease.

Chiropractors speak of a condition called the vertebral subluxation complex, which is a misalignment of the spine causing interference in the nerve signals and impulses that regulate your body's function and overall health.

The chiropractic adjustment helps to restore your body's balance and function to correct the underlying cause of your symptoms and treatments that are as painless as possible to get you back to feeling yourself again as quickly as possible.

As such, the chiropractic adjustment may help with many conditions outside of neck and back pain. Many patients report a decrease in asthma symptoms, digestive problems, earaches, carpal tunnel, and many other common ailments. In recent studies, in fact, chiropractic has been proven to help with high blood pressure and adult ADD.

Chiropractic is simple. It's natural. It honors the wisdom of your body, and it has helped millions enjoy relief and better health for more than a century!

Our Doctor

Dr. Roger Scheltens D.C.

Dr. Scheltens earned his doctorate degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA and his B.A. degree from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN. He is well versed in many chiropractic techniques including but not limited to The Palmer Chiropractic College methods, Diversified, Thompsons Drop, Activator method, and non-force techniques like BEST (Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique). He is also licensed in physiotherapy. He has extensive post-graduate training in numerous therapies and most recently in the treatment of disc pain relief and rehabilitation.

Disc problems are very common and they can lead to extreme pain and sciatica among other conditions. Dr. Scheltens uses the Disc Pump to help restore the integrity of the disc by gently tractioning the vertebrae one at a time. This takes the pressure off the nerves by drawing the disc back to its proper position adding volume and increases the disc space between the vertebrae. His program also implements the use of supplements and specific instructions for the patient to use at home to aid in the healing and restoration of the disc and surrounding soft tissue.

What is the disc pump? It is an FDA registered hand-held traction tool that is effective in the treatment of back and neck pain. The disc pump tractions 1 disc at a time and is a non-invasive method for those seeking relief from chronic back pain. Upon completion of treatment, many cases report feeling the relief of symptoms, allowing individuals to go through their daily routine with fewer restrictions or increases in symptoms.
